Hi! My name is Koa. I am 5 years old and weigh about 70 pounds. The best word to describe me is the dog you have been waiting for! I'm new to Broken Tail and my foster mom told me not to get too comfortable because my forever family is just about to find me. I can't wait to meet them. So let me tell you what I am looking for besides a kingsize bed with my people. I want someone to give me exercise and structure and challenge my mind. I know lots of commands and I promise to dazzle you with them, but please make sure I practice, so I don;t forget. Your reward for helping me practice will be kisses, loyalty, and love. Think you ... (Read More)can do that? Great .... now let me tell you about some of my other preferences. OK, I realize you probably have a regular visitor called your postal carrier. I'll tell you now, I won't like them. Sometimes they even take the boxes when you leave them. I love cat's and would not mind having one or two, but I'd prefer to be your only dog for now. Maybe after I settle in we can negotiate, but for the time being let's let it be just us. Now for the answers to your other questions, just so we can seal the deal. I am neutered, up-to-date on immunizations, I have received preventive care and been on heart-worm medication all my life and I am housebroken. A few more tid-bits, just in case you are not sure, I love car rides with my people and I would love a family with kids that weigh more than me. If you are interested in finding out more about me, please fill out an application on our website by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: http://www.brokentailrescue.org/adoption-application/ Don't forget, my name is KOA and I am being fostered in Framingham and the adoption fee is $375. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Mountain Cur    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is Jasmine. They say I'm a Portuguese Fila. I am estimated to be about 7 years old and weigh about 55lbs. The best word to describe me is cuddly! I love to curl up on couches (and beds when my foster dad's not watching), especially when my foster humans are watching a movie. I REALLY love to be outside, but I'm not so great with wildlife (especially squirrels, they're my favorite), I can't help it it's in my blood, I just want to chase them but then my foster mom wouldn't be able to keep up. I'd love to go on long runs, but it being winter makes things slippery for my humans. I'm fully house-trained, and will let you know ... (Read More)when I need to go out. My foster mom says I've got some issues with my hind legs, but I don't notice or feel it after visiting the vet, they're feeling better every day! I'm friendly with all people, even kids, but I'd rather not be around little ones for more than a few days, they tire me out too much! I'm not so great with other animals though, and would prefer to be your only pet. I have been spayed, and am up to date on my vaccinations. If you are interested in finding out more about Jasmine, please fill out an application on our website by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: http://www.brokentailrescue.org/adoption-application/ Jasmine is being fostered in Worcester and the adoption fee is $350. Chihuahua    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Mia! Sweet little Mia is a teeny 5lb Chihuahua. The vet estimated her to be about 2 years old. She was picked up by an animal control officer after a previous owner had dumped her out in the cold. Mia has some frost bitten ears, but is otherwise healthy and happy. Because of her tiny size, she should only be in a home with older, dog savvy children. She is extremely timid and skittish when she first meets you. Once she comes out of her shell and learns to trust, she will follow you everywhere and always keep your lap warm. She would love a home where she can cuddle under the blankets with her humans at night. She loves to jump around ... (Read More)and engage in tug-of-war with dogs of all sizes. She doesn't like to be left alone, so would prefer to live in a home where someone will be around her often throughout the day. She has begun house training in her current foster home and is learning to use a pee pad for those freezing cold winter days. If you're looking for a little love bug, Mia is your girl!     Hi! My name is Sly. I look a little like an Arctic Fox. Mostly white, I have brown spots on my body and brown freckles on my ears. The best word to describe me is Sweet! I am the nicest guy. I am estimated to be 3 years old and weigh in at 27 lbs. I ride very nicely in the car and am quiet in the house (not a peep out of me so far). Friendly with men, women and other dogs, that's me! I have been neutered, am up to date on my vaccinations and am negative for Heartworm. I tested positive for Lyme disease so am on a 30 day course of antibiotics. Chihuahua    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Low Energy
Health: Vaccinations Current

Gertie is a 14 year old 6lb Chi who is looking for a retirement home to call her own. She is just about the sweetest dog you will ever meet and her favorite activity is snuggling on a warm lap underneath the blankets. She does not see or hear very well but she does not let that slow her down! She loves to wander all around the house and when she is done with her exercise routine she will come over to be picked up so she can take a nap on your nice warm lap. Gertrude is currently living with a 30lb dog as well as a cat and she is fine with both. She really isn't fazed by anything as long as she gets her snuggles. She is house trained ... (Read More)but because of her age and size she needs to be taken out approximately every 4 hours or provided with an adequate substitute such as pee pads or a diaper.     Introducing Minnie! Minnie is a sweet, friendly older gal who is great with everyone! She came to Broken Tail Rescue after her longtime owner passed away. She was noticeably sad with the transition, but after a few days, she started showing her happy side. We were told that Minnie is 15 years old, but you wouldn't think that from looking at her! She is very active - she loves hanging out in the backyard and going for walks. She trots all around the house after her foster mom and dad, and loves to curl up on the couch at night. Minnie is about 20 pounds and has big ears that stick up straight (which makes us think she has some Corgi ... (Read More)mixed in). She is great with dogs and cats. Jack Russell Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy

Meet Patriot! He is a 4-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix. He loves to lounge on the couch, play with his kong toy, and follow you around to see what you're up to. Patriot is house trained, and he walks nicely on a leash. He really enjoys exploring outside, and will meet you eagerly at the door when he sees his leash. Patriot was found wandering as a stray with a heavy chain around his neck, which had to be cut off with bolt cutters. He was very anxious in the shelter, but is opening up and becoming more relaxed by the hour. He's also rediscovering his playful side! Patriot has shown a little bit of resource guarding (not liking his toys ... (Read More)taken away), but with a committed, patient owner, he's likely to improve immensely. He's still a bit nervous at times, and he needs an owner who's respectful of his body language as they get to know him. Rescue Me ID: 15-07-31-00358Pumba (male)

Schnauzer Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Pumba is a Shep-a-Doodle, a Shepherd and Poodle mix. He is estimated to be 7 years old and weighs about 35 lbs. Pumba is not yet available for adoption, as he is in a board and train program with a local trainer to work on some of his fears. His fur is a grey / brindle / white and grows long on the top and short on the sides. His under-bite is incredible. It makes him look so much like Pumba from the Lion King! If he could talk we're pretty sure this is how he'd describe himself: 'Hi! I'm Pumba and have a lot of love to give a new family. I love to cuddle, play outside and will follow you around everywhere. I'm not really a morning dog and ... (Read More)love sleeping in. But if you tell me we can go on a walk, it doesn't matter what time of day it is (Although, my foster mom says I have to work on my leash manners - I just can't wait to go go go!). I know how to sit and stay, down, wait, leave it, and drop it. My ideal home would be a place with few distractions where someone is with me a lot so we can hang out. I'm definitely a ladies man. But with some time I could learn to love a male in the household too. It'll just take some patience, they make me a little nervous. I am very loyal and will make someone very happy. Oh, and one more thing - I love my stuffed animal friends! My training is going very well. The greatest issue that I am working to overcome is meeting new people. I LOVE my family and friends who I am comfortable with, but I am having a hard time with new people. I really do not like to have strangers touching me, although I will gently take a treat from the person. The same goes for dogs, I do not like my space invaded by a dog that I do not know, but I am perfectly fine with the dogs in my foster home. My adopter will be required to stay in touch with my trainer and to continue to follow my training plan. I am an amazing companion and promise to be loyal to you forever. Please have dog experience! NOTE: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet. (Less)
